Ballerinas are the most underrated athletes.
GUYS SHE IS SPINNING ON HER TOE.
ALL HER WEIGHT ON HER TOE.
HER TOE.
TOE.
Thank you someone for finally acknowledging this.
People always make ballet seem like such a wimpy, easy sport.
While we are dancing, we have to:
- turn out our feet
- hyper extended our knees
- tuck our buts under
- flatten our stomach
- close your ribcage (to the point where you cant breathe)
- shoulders are down and back
- elbows are lifted
- hands and fingers are soft
- neck is long
- use proper head movements
ALL THIS WHILE STILL IN OUR STARTING POSITIONS NOW DO ALL THAT WHILE MOVING AND LOOKING GORGEOUS. AND EFFORTLESS
You try holding your leg by your head without touching it and turning on the tips of your toes and wooden shoes and tell me ballet isn’t hard.
People always say “don’t be a ballerina” and “don’t be such a pussy”
when really ballerinas and vagina’s are probably the most hardcore things
AND BALLERINAS WITH VAGINA’S ARE JUST STRAIGHT UP METAL
SO DO NOT TELL ME BALLET IS FUCKING EASY AND NOT A REAL SPORT
^^^^FACTS^^^^
Let’s not forget you have to train your feet and ankles for years to get to pointe. You want some fab female musculature, you look at a ballerina - danseurs, too.
Also, that’s the `90-somethingth production of Swan Lake they did at the Kennedy Center! [Very entertaining one. Rothbart was a straight up player.]
Also you’re most likely DONE in this sport by the time you’re 25/30-ish, like a lot of the hardcore tap dancers.
It takes a LOT of strength to do this and I just sit there in awe of ballet because goddamn the human body is an amazing thing sometimes.
True story, I was a ballet dancer for years, and my knees/ankles are actually permanently turned as a result. Ballet is hard-fucking-core.
I took ballet as a kid. Actually, I took a LOT of dance courses* as a kid, down to high school.
Dancing is HARD work. :)
*Ballet, jazz, a bit of tap, some hip hop, musical theater, & ballroom dancing. ;)
I did dance lessons from age 5 to high school graduation, and a bit in college, and I still can’t dance. It is fucking hard and anyone who tells me it isn’t a sport always gets a dark stare from me.
Ballet, tap, musical theatre, and a tiny bit of hip hop. Tap dance was the one I did best at.
Okay, Polina… it’s cool.
